Who can take the DELE exam?

Anybody who is NOT a citizen of a country where Spanish is an official language. In case you want to be a candidate for the DSE, you should be age 16 or older.

Do I have to attend a school or university before taking the D.E.L.E. exams?

No. You can prepare yourself for the exam, or enroll for a specialized D.E.L.E. preparation course in one of the many Spanish schools, worldwide. For more information, click here.

Can I take the DBE exam without having previously taken the CIE exam?

Yes. The D.E.L.E. exams are independent of each other. If you feel fluent enough you can take the DBE exam without previously taking the CIE exam.

How much does the D.E.L.E. exam cost?

It varies from country to country and the type of exam. For more information check our cost chart.

Where can I enroll for the D.E.L.E. exam?

In one of the 85 registration centers, worldwide. Some schools who offer D.E.L.E. preparation courses can register you on your behalf.

How can I prepare myself for the D.E.L.E. exam?

You can study on your own or attend a Spanish language school that has a special D.E.L.E. exam preparation program.

How can I obtain examples of past exams?

The schools which offer DELE examination courses often have copies from past exams.

Who and how are the D.E.L.E. exams corrected?

Some parts are corrected by the examination center, other parts by the University of Salamanca, in Spain. The exam is divided into three parts, totaling a 100 points.

- Group 1: Reading Comprehension (20 points) and Written paper (15 points)

- Group 2: Grammar and vocabulary: 20 points.

- Group 3: Oral Comprehension (15 points) and verbal expression (30 points).

The minimum passing grade 70%.

This means you need a qualification of MINIMUM 24,5 points in group 1, 14 points in group 2, and 31,5 points in group 3.

When will I get notified about the results of my exam?

The results of the exams will be published within 60 working days by the University of Salamanca (the institution in charge of qualifying), after they received the exams from the examination center. The Instituto Cervantes (the organizing institution) will inform you by snail mail about your results.

If I don’t agree with the results, is there a way to protest?

Yes. On the document you receive from the Instituto Cervantes, there will be a address from the University of Salamanca, where you can protest. Every reclamation should be written.

When do I receive the diploma?

The D.E.L.E. diplomas are issued by the Spanish government. Please be patient, as it can take several weeks before you receive the diploma by mail.

How do I get my diploma?

The examination center where you took your exam will send your diploma once they receive it from the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, which issues the diplomas. The diploma will be sent to the address you filled in on your enrollment form.
